Surfline called this swell "MayDays at Puerto Escondido". There were some sets pushing the Twenty Foot Plus scale.
Even Nathan Florence flew in for the swell and had one of the biggest wipeouts we've ever seen at Playa Zicatela.
May 17, 2023, seemed to be larger than anticipated and offered XXL peaks, barrels, and pristine offshore winds.
